Same Day Discharge
Ride and Responsible Adult
Patients who receive sedation, peripheral regional nerve blocks, neuraxial or general anesthetic must have a responsible adult escort them home and it is recommended that the adult spend the night with them. Surgical applied local anesthetic only does not require a responsible adult to be present for hospital discharge.

Driving

-
The dangers of driving and the operation of hazardous machinery during the postoperative period (most commonly 24h postoperatively) should be discussed
-
The pain and discomfort following even minor surgical procedures and necessitating narcotic medication may extend this prohibition period by several days
-
Patients having surgery under general anesthesia should not drive for at least 24 hours
-
Patients undergoing conscious sedation should be counseled to avoid driving for 24 hours
